As I was praying this morning I was thinking about the purpose that each of us have on our lives. I'm pretty sure I have even blogged about our purpose before. However, the thought I was having this morning was more about how we know what our purpose is supposed to be. Many times we just expect to be sitting in a service and God is going to send someone right up to us with a word for us. Or we hope to be a part of a prophetic service where a prayer is prayed out that we know is directly for us. And as amazing as it is when those kind of things happen, for many people if it doesn't come to them like that they just don't know what to do with their life. People will walk around without direction in their life because they are not spending the kind of time they need to with God so they can get direction from Him.
Imagine starting a job and from day one you rarely talk to your boss. You get a few weeks or even a few months into the job and you realize that because you and your boss don't talk much, you really don't understand what you are supposed to be doing at this job. Yes you might stay busy and even be productive on certain days, but you have no idea if your doing what they hired you to do. However, if you have ever worked at a place where you are in close communication with your boss, then you know what it is like to be getting constant feedback and assignments from that person. You can then feel like you are on track with what you are supposed to be doing and even know when you are above or below the expectations they have for you.
This is very similar to how God operates in our lives too. If you don't go to Him in your secret place (prayer) and talk with Him(talk and listen), then how are you ever supposed to know what God wants you to do? You must be in close communication with God in order to not walk around in life aimlessly. Yes, there are days He will use you to help someone and you will feel good about that day, but what is the purpose He has on your entire life? If you don't know the answer to that question, then I suggest going to Him and seeking it! Spend time with Him and let Him reveal to you the purpose He has had for you since before you were even born. Don't buy into the lie of the enemy that not everyone has a purpose. The world is not divided into 2 kinds of Christians, those with a purpose and those without. God has a purpose for ALL of His children and if you are not seeking His will for your life, then chances are there is some kingdom work that is not getting done because He specifically designed you to do it!
I have referenced Jeremiah 29 before, but the main reason I am using it again today is because it instructs us to call upon Him "in prayer" and He tells us that when we seek Him...seek Him with "all of our heart". I believe that when we seek Him like this, He reveals Himself the most to us!
"For I know I the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart". (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
