Holy

Listened to a great message by Robert Morris on my drive to work today.
God's Word calls us to be holy...and by holy it does not mean sinless and perfect. Only Jesus could be that. But He calls us to be holy, meaning to be "set apart". As Christians we should be set apart from the rest of the world. (see Leviticus 20:26) I know there was a time when my heart, my thoughts, my life didn't look much different than the rest of the world, even though I called myself a Christian. And sadly, my spiritual life reflected that. My closeness to God was directly affected by how much I was willing to make myself set apart. What the mind dwells on the heart reflects. If our thoughts are of worldly things then our lives typically look "wordly". Thoughts of envy, selfishness, lust, bitterness and unforgivenss are never going to help you draw near to God, be guided by the Holy Spirit or be set apart. Diving into God's Word and asking God to search your heart is a great way way to start to be set apart. When we allow God to renew our hearts He can transform out thoughts and set us apart. It is then that our thoughts will move from such temporal things of this world, to the eternal things that God would like us to fix our eyes on.
